Abolition and Amnesty Issues
The Deputy Chairman of the Gelora Party, Fahri Hamzah, responded to the decision on amnesty and abolition. Fahri Hamzah viewed President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to grant abolition to former Trade Minister Tom Lembong and amnesty to PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto as a step to end political and social polarization in society. He described the decision as reflecting President Prabowo Subianto’s strong desire to mend national unity ahead of the 80th Independence Day commemoration on Saturday, August 17, 2025.
Fahri Hamzah expressed his views through a post on his personal social media account. “President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to grant amnesty to PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristianto and at the same time grant abolition to Tom Lembong, former co-pilot of the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar support team, is an excellent choice,” he wrote on Friday (August 1, 2025). “The quick response of the DPR RI leadership expressed by Professor Sufmi Dasco Ahmad is also an action that can read the strong signals of the president’s desire to end division in society and start a large reconciliation, especially as we enter the 80th anniversary of the proclamation month on August 17, 2025,” he added.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the decision to grant abolition and amnesty is crucial in a situation characterized by various attempts to divide the nation. “For me, this is heartwarming news in the midst of the desire of a few people to continue to divide. The president comes with a firm stance to use his authority to decide something that has a huge impact on the return of harmony in our society,” he explained.
